چکیده

The exosome, one of the main cellular ribonucleases in eukaryotes, is a multi-subunit complex of deep evolutionary origin. This complex has been extensively characterized in Saccharomyces cerevisae. Given the good conservation of exosome subunit sequences, it was widely accepted that the yeast exosome provided a good model for other eukaryotic species. Recent analysis of higher eukaryotic exosomes reveals some differences challenging this idea. In this issue of The EMBO Journal, Tomecki et al (2010) and Staals et al (2010) provide new insights into the composition and function of the human exosome, with implications for our understanding on the organization, function and localization of this complex in these cells. The exosome is responsible for many RNA processing and degradation reactions in the nucleus and cytoplasm (Lykke-Andersen et al, 2009). Yeast exosome is composed of a nine subunit ring structure to which Dis3 binds to form the exosome core. Additional co-factors associate to the exosome core in the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Of the 10 core subunits, only Dis3 possesses enzymatic activity with an RNB domain acting as exoribonuclease and a PIN domain

Using Twins to Resolve the Twin Problem of Having a Bad Job and a Low Wage

Using Twins to Resolve the Twin Problem of Having a Bad Job and a Low Wage We use data on twins matched to register-based information on earnings to examine the long-standing puzzle of non-existent compensating wage differentials. The use of twin data allows us to remove otherwise unobserved productivity differences that were the prominent reason for estimation bias in the earlier studies. Usin...

An investigation on full annealing temperature and annealing twins’ Density in Fe-33Mn-3Si-2Al high-manganese steel

Twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) steels with high manganese percentage (17-35%), are mostly used in automotive bodies. Their microstructure at room temperature is austenitic, and due to the low stacking fault energy, major deformation mechanism in them is twinning inside austenite grains which leads to enhanced mechanical strength in the steel. Due to the important effect of heat treatment pr...

Nasal Septum and External Nasal Deformity Similarities in Monozygotic Twins and Paranasal Computed Tomography Analysis

Since identical twins occur as a result of the division of one egg, they have the same genetic structure. Therefore, their phenotypes and sex are also always the same. However, due to the effect of environmental factors, some of the characteristics of twins living in different regions appear to develop differently. In our case of 17-year-old maternal twins, we emphasized that nasal pathologies ...

Two Techniques of Tonsillectomy Performed in Identical Twins: A Case Report

Introduction:Cold dissection (CD) and bipolar cautery dissection (BCD) techniques are two common surgical tonsillectomy procedures used in the clinic. Obstruction has become more prevalent as the major surgical indication and is most prominently observed in younger children.Case Report:  In this report, we aimed to explain the abovementioned surgical techniques in detail and compare the results...

How Dependency Forms in a Cotwin: A Narrative Study

The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze the life story of twins by focusing on how the dependency between them forms and its consequences on various aspects of their lives. For this purpose, an in-depth interview was conducted with a 26-year-old girl cotwin. The data were analyzed using the narrative method. Findings on four themes of "unique relationship", "fusion", "individualizat...

Successful Surgical Separation of Thoraco-Omphalopagus Symmetrical Conjoined Twins in Iran: Two Case Reports

Conjoined twins are derived from the division of a single fertilized ovum; a phenomenon accompanied with multiple congenital anomalies. Such twins are identical, of the same sex, and more likely to be female. Most twins die during the embryonic period, and only 18% survive longer than 24 hours. There are complex anomalies in thoraco-omphalopagus twins that makes them unlikely to live long enoug...
